Write characters and use the chapter editor

Separate public profiles, private character notes and player chapters, then format, save and preview your writing.

This guide covers the Jubensha workflow in Anzir Studio and the app. Interactive-game tools and publishing paths may differ.

What you will be able to do:Create a readable character passage and know which information belongs in each layer.

Characters: create a role, then its chapters

A character is the player’s identity. Its chapters contain what that player reads as the story progresses.

    1. Select Characters in the outline to open Characters & scripts.
    2. Open an existing character, or select New character when you need another one.
    3. Open the chapter listed under Chapters. Add chapter creates another passage for that character.
The tutorial Character 1 already has Chapter 1. Public and private details are separate from the chapter list.

Public profile & promotion: help players choose

Use this layer for the character’s name, portrait, gender and public description. Public character controls whether others may view that character information.

    1. Open Public profile & promotion from the character page.
    2. Describe the role without exposing hidden identities, the solution or later reversals.
    3. Check the public-character setting and save state. A public profile does not replace the character’s reading chapters.

Private character notes: keep the full motivation

Use Private character notes for secrets, fears, conflicting loyalties, the character arc and boundaries Arc should preserve. These notes are excluded from player views and promotion.

Write freely in Character notes. In the current version these planning notes save in the current browser; do not treat their autosave as confirmation of an online manuscript save.

    1. Open Private character notes.
    2. Record what the character knows, hides and wants, including what may change later.
    3. Reveal the intended parts gradually in player chapters; keeping a secret here does not deliver it to a player.

The chapter toolbar: write and organise text

    • Undo and Redo handle recent editing actions. Saved versions are inspected separately through Version history.
    • Text style changes a paragraph into a heading or body text. Use Bold, Italic and Underline to distinguish short cues; avoid making an entire chapter a heading.
    • Strikethrough crosses out selected text; Inline code gives a short phrase a code style. Text color, Background color, Text alignment and First line indent control its presentation.
    • Format painter reuses text formatting. Fullscreen expands the editing area; return to the reading preview afterwards to check the result.
    • More formatting options includes list tools. Use numbered lists for a sequence and bullets for parallel information.
    • Find and replace helps locate repeated names or terms. Check replacements in context, especially in character-specific versions of the same event.
    • Insert opens the available content tools, including images, links, tables and supported card or deck references. Create the source cards first, then select the intended reference.
    • Use a block’s handle to move it. Prevent edits locks this editor against accidental input; it does not lock collaborators out of the whole game.

Save, version history and the reading preview

    1. Write the chapter, select Save and wait for Saved. An editing, saving, conflict or error state needs attention before you leave.
    2. Use Phone or Tablet to check paragraph length, headings and inserted materials. Reading settings changes the preview’s display.
    3. Open Version history to inspect a saved record. Text changes compares text; formatting and media changes are outside that comparison.
    4. Use Restore only after checking the selected record: restoration replaces the current editor content. Some older records support text preview only.

If saving fails or a conflict appears

    1. Copy any unsaved text to a local note before troubleshooting. Keep the editor open while you check the problem.
    2. Read the save status and error message. Check your connection and sign-in state, then use Save and wait for Saved.
    3. For a version conflict, compare the current text and Version history with collaborators before choosing what to keep. Check what Restore would replace before using it.
    4. If saving still fails, contact support with the game, chapter, time and error message.

    Check the app separately

App preview and Open in Anzir provide the app-preview entry. Follow the displayed scanning instructions with an account that has the required access.

    1. Check the online save before opening the app preview.
    2. Verify the reading layout in the app when access is available.
    3. Use a playtest to check real recipients, delivery and the complete game flow. A phone-shaped web preview alone cannot establish those results.
    Open Studio

Studio handbooks and creation tools may require sign-in and author access.
