In the 1930s, on a lonely island off the Scottish coast, a lighthouse stood amid four-sided storms. Lighthouse keeper Aidan MacRae and his wife Maeve, and his assistant Duncan, had long been stationed here. Tonight, the lamp-repair technician Lewis, the sheltering smuggler-turned-sailor Tess, and the retired inspector Fiona Blake were all stranded on the island by the storm. On the wildest night of the storm, the keeper Aidan was found fallen at the base of the lighthouse — seemingly a slip, yet in truth a murder. The island was sealed; no one could come or go; the killer had to be among those on the island. The lighthouse light still swept the sea every 8 seconds. But everyone knew: that night, something had been lit by this lamp, and something had remained forever in the dark the light never reached. When the truth emerged, it lay hidden in a memory misplaced by the light's cycle, and in a secret the keeper had buried for years — colder than the fall, and more heartbreaking.
